I feel like we get a lot of solicitors in our neighborhood. I try to be polite, but I just hate being interupted. A few months ago I put a "No Soliciting" sign on my home. I still get people knocking on my door. I checked to see if Provo has any laws protecting my rights. Well, guess what, they do!
Selling door-to-door in Provo requires a license. A city ordinance passed two years ago requires solicitors to undergo a background check and to wear an ID badge showing their names, company, and date their license expires.
The ordinance also prohibits a solicitor from knocking or ringing the bell at a residence with a "no soliciting" sign, and continuing to solicit after a person has clearly communicated a lack of interest. If asked to leave, the solicitor must do so immediately.
For more information, call Provo City Licensing at 801-852-6532. To report a violation, call Provo City Dispatch at 801-852-6210.
Here is a link I found on the Mayors Blog:
Don't let the solicitor tell you they don't need to wear it, or that the city has it on file.
The Provo City Code, section 6.09.110, says the identification badge "shall be worn prominently on the solicitor's person while soliciting in the City."
This is the badge they are to wear visibly.
